Travel At Your Own Pace - Cycling Hostels

A cycling trip is a great way to see a country. It environmentally sound, and you get to see some gorgeous scenery all around the world. There are hostels who cater specifically to backpackers on bikes. Not only will you find some dynamite places to sleep but youll find like minded people who are fun to share stories with and maybe even a little bike repair.

One would expect Amsterdam to have places that cater to cyclists and they do. For the novice cyclists, Holland is a great place to start out. Theres no country anywhere more bike friendly and there are loads of hostels connected with the sport. Germany is the same way. Theres one road that passes many of the medieval castles and goes through little villages. There are many bikers hostels that offer secure storage and a fun environment for a night or two. Further afield is Bolivia with some of the most dangerous roads in the world. Its definitely not for novices or the fainthearted but the adventure is amazing. At the end of frightening days, there are many bikers hostels that provide some comfort! Even if you dont want to leave the country or money is super tight, there are some bikers hostels in the United States. A really nice one is in San Francisco called the Hi-San and its at Fishermans Wharf. You can even rent a bike once you are there since they have them on hand.

Bikes are a terrific resource for a long trip and in most countries they are allowed on trains if you decide to skip a route for some reason or the other. Biking sites as well as hostel sites can give you info on where to find bike friendly places.
