Family Hostels
As hostels have changed so have their guests, and one of the bigger niches within the hostel industry are family hostels. People with children can take vacations and travel even though they may be on a strict budget. And the destinations are almost endless.
Gone are the days of finding a cheap hotel with a tiny room and asking for a rollaway bed for the children to share. Hostels are providing private rooms with up to six beds and thats perfect for a family. The low rates dont mean that people are having to compromise especially when some hostels are catering specifically toward family groups. En suite bathrooms have been added along with self-catering kitchens, which is very popular for families who are eating on a budget. In foreign countries, its a great way to get to the local markets and try new foods and its culturally educational for everyone in the family. Outside the rooms, hostels are upping the ante with big lounge areas containing big screen tvs, free wifi and even video games, and some even have recreational areas. In warm weather climates, theyve added all sorts of outdoor amenities that work for people with children. Many have even gotten liquor permits and have inhouse bars. This evolution has come at a perfect time when people have less income but want to travel and extend their childrens education through cultural exchange. Hostels are making it possible and in a very nice way too.
There are many sites devoted to family hostels. You can see pictures, read reviews and know everything about a place before you book, and thats even available too. It pays to do your research to avoid disappointment or arrangements that dont work once you get there, but youll easily find what you need online.
