Desert Island Hostels - They Do Exist

In the South Pacific and off the African coast, there are any number of small islands or beach areas where you actually feel as though you are on a deserted island. Maybe it really isnt deserted but if you want some privacy and peace and quiet these are the places to get it. Theyre cheap and perfect for long stays. If you need to finish papers or a novel, this is the kind of place to think about. Youll have your thoughts to yourself if thats what you want.

Some of the hostels in these areas are a little more upscale than urban ones, but there are still good deals. Check out places in French Polynesia as well as Indonesia and Samoa. In Indonesia there are several beach areas known for their good parties and, of course, youll find a hostel there. One place is in Gili Meno where beach huts are three Euro a night and theres a fantastic bar. If you can manage getting to the Cook Islands, it may be worth it. Hostels International has a place there right on the beach and that sand is white. Its a good time sort of place if you know what I mean. Theres a little island off Mozambique called Inhaca, and its worth the ferry ride over to spend a few days chilling. Theres great snorkling there too Most these island type hostel locations arent that easy to get to but if you make the effort, it will be worth it. They are the places you go to when you need to rest up or feel like youre getting off the beaten path.

For these places, its best to know all you can about them in advance since they require some real transportation to get to.
