Hostels

A lot of backpackers are already planning to be somewhere near or in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup finals. Getting tickets will be tough but you never know and the atmosphere will be pretty electric. Already many people are planning to take their gap year in conjunction with the Cup to travel around Africa and then head south for the event.

Cape Town has some great hostels with a big variety of styles, and theres no doubt most of them will turn into party hostels during the Cup. All the extra event type things that go on around a World Cup like concerts and the such will make the whole town a party. And with Kruger National Park not too far away and the Garden Route right there, it isnt as though you can get your feet moving. The beaches near Cape Town are excellent and there is some amazing surfing.

This is one of those rare times when some upfront planning on airline tickets will be useful. Think about flying into some place a lot cheaper than Cape Town and then making your way there. Youll get to see something of Africa, find plenty of cheap and interesting hostels along the way and still get into Cape Town to party. Whats funny is that several college officials have mentioned how good a gap year in Africa looks on CVs. Now theres a thought!

Thing is that even if you dont like soccer all that much the atmosphere will be one you dont want to miss out on!
